I love this photo I took on one of my bike rides through the city of a Dragon Boat practice at sunset. It reminds me that we all have an inner light that radiates love and warmth 360 degrees around us. It touches everyone we meet with our energy. That is, if we don’t allow other people or circumstances to send us into a black hole.

That’s one reason I started this blog. I realized that my dharma, or life purpose, is to shine my light into the world, and to help others find theirs. We all have this light within us, but it can easily be dimmed. World events, the people around us, old programming, or the environment we grew up in can make the world seem like a very dark place.

So how can we re-discover our inner light, turn it on, and shine it brightly in our relations with others? How can we make our interactions cordial, peaceful, connected, and supportive? There are serveral ways we can increase our vibrational frequency, and shine our light into the world:

Remember Your Purpose/Dharma

When we reconnect with our true, authentic selves, we remember why we are here, and what we are meant to do in the world. We then shine more brightly. What we do is a reflection of our soul, and in line with our soul. When we are in line, we vibrate at a higher frequency, and have a brighter light.

Surround Yourself With a Supportive Community and Connections

When our light is dim, it’s often a good idea to surround ourselves with loved ones, good friends, cuddly pets, and positive souls who already shine brightly. If we hang around negative people who don’t support us, our souls feel crushed. We feel disconnected with others and ourselves. Being around those who are supportive of our radiant auras makes it easier to feel our own light.

Inner Light and Doing What You Love

Dance, sing, do some artwork, go for a walk in nature, exercise, do some yoga, play a musical instrument, or climb a mountain. Do whatever you love doing! Everyone has something they love to do, and when we do it, we feel immediately elevated and light.

Inner Light and Being in Nature

One of the best ways I’ve found to both ground and elevate myself is to immerse myself in nature. Nature stands tall and steady for us in darker times. It teaches us how to deal with the winds of change. The earth emits so much energy, and we absorb that energy. We connect with the trees, birds, wildlife, sunlight, wind, rain, snow, and mountains. Nature recharges our batteries when they are low, and helps us grow our inner light.

Inner Light and Meditation/Yoga

When we practice meditation and yoga, we elevate our minds and bodies by either sitting quietly, or listening to music or voice. We also move the body and breath in a fluid sequence that gets all our bodily juices and systems flowing. We improve our nervous systems, circulatory systems, and lymphatic systems. Our minds become more clear. When the blood flows, our inner light glows!

Laugh and Find Humour in Every Situation

Laughing can be one of the best medicines! Whether it’s laughing with a friend, or laughing at oneself, it can make our hearts and minds feel lighter and happier. All it takes is a funny thought, reading a few funny words, seeing a funny video, or watching a funny movie. In kundalini yoga, one of my teachers deliberately gets us laughing for several minutes! We all end up with tears of laughter streaming down our faces! What a release that is! Laughter moves the energy, lightens the soul, and makes our inner light shine!

Inner Light and Music

I must have gone through half of my life without really enjoying the music that was on the radio. But one day, I discovered some amazing live music in town. It was an artist I’d never heard of before, and she wowed me so much, I felt light, elevated, inspired, and my chakras were all bursting open! The frequency of her voice and music lifted my spirits, and made me feel an inner warmth I had never felt before. Music can be very healing and transforming if you find a voice or sound you resonate with!

Inner Light and Sound Healing

This brings me to my last point on sound healing. It can be music, crystal bowls, Tibetan healing bowls, gongs, binaural beats, you name it. If you have never tried sound healing as a method to calm the mind and heal the heart, I highly recommend it.

I hope this offers you some helpful ways to find your own light, and shine it out in service to others. When you shine your inner light, you can really transform the relationships with those around you.
