The past couple of weekends, I’ve gone Spring cross-country skiing in the beautiful mountains of Alberta and BC. Might be my last attempt on skis, as the snow is getting slushy and icy. The big melt is on as the temperatures rise, and Spring Equinox is upon us! I love the changing of the seasons – Always presenting us with an opportunity to make changes in our lives, just as the earth elements are changing. Spring Equinox is a great time for reflecting on these changes through a mindfulness meditation practice. We may reflect on balancing ourselves, or on our awakening, and rebirth. It’s a great time to plant new seeds, and unleash our potential.

Speaking of mindfulness meditation, I’m pleased to announce that my new YouTube channel has now been officially launched! Visit my channel, watch the short Welcome video, and subscribe for my free, guided meditations using my own photos and videos here ==> MindfulNatureNut Guided Meditations

Mindfulness Meditation & Spring Equinox Significance

At Spring Equinox, there is a equal balance of light and dark (12 hours of daylight, and 12 hours of darkness). This makes Spring a great time to balance ourselves and our energies through mindfulness meditation. Through meditation, we can recalibrate and cleanse our spirits to create space for our soul’s light to emerge.

Similarly, if there’s something you want to manifest, then this new space of neutrality will help you create what you want to attract in your life. You can also let go of that which no longer serves you so that you can align better with your soul’s true purpose and path, and manifest the things you do want, rather than what you don’t want.

Spring Equinox is a time for planting new seeds of kindness, patience, and tolerance, or whatever new seed you wish to plant. Remember that you are a tiny seed just waiting to blossom into a beautiful flower. Tune into your heart, and tap into the energy of new beginnings with balance and harmony. As the days become longer, there’s more light to ease the dark clouds in our lives.

Springtime Meditation on Mother Earth’s Gifts

Springtime on earth is a time of slush, ice, and mud in the mountains. The slop is not usually my favourite thing. But when we practice mindfulness meditation on the mountain, or wherever we are comfortable, we become present to nature’s gifts. For example, moving slowly and noticing the freshness of the air, the warmth of the sunshine on our skin, and the chirping of the happy birds uplifts our spirits.

The mud always reminds me of the Lotus flower, which only grows in the muck at the bottom of the lake. Then they rise above the water, blooming into the most beautiful flowers. This is a great lesson of Spring: In order for us to blossom into our true potential, we must first go through being stuck in the mud, so-to-speak. The Lotus represents a spiritual awakening, pure potentiality, creativity, and rebirth. Spring is the perfect time to embark on a new challenge or adventure and blossom into who we really are with our gifts that we can share with the world.

Mindfulness Meditation and the Balance of Light & Dark

As mentioned previously, on the Spring Equinox, there are 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness in equal balance. In order to find our own balance within, we must recognize that there is never always complete light or complete darkness – All good or all bad – All positive or all negative. In order to experience love and light, we also must embrace the darkness. There will always be sunny and stormy days, depressed days, and days when we are struggling a little. If we learn to embrace the clouds during our mindfulness meditations – something I struggle with – then eventually we see the value in them. Out of our struggles, bliss arises, and we can then share that with others. When looking to strike a balance within, you may ask yourself, “What can I let go of?” or “What can I bring more of into my life?”

How To Celebrate the Coming of Spring

Be Active in Nature

One of the best ways to celebrate any occasion for me is to go out into nature and do something active, like a hike, snowshoe, ski, kayak, or bike ride. Today’s adventure for me was snowshoeing through a Spring snowstorm in the mountains. I spotted 2 deer on the way in, and an Bald Eagle on the way out. There were many bunny tracks in the snow. Go for a mindfulness meditation walk and notice any new growth. Crocus flowers are one of the first signs of Spring around here. Whatever you do, just look for the signs of Spring, and this will give your spirits a boost.

Patio Time and Gardening Time

Another few signs of Spring where I live are the warmer temperatures, sunny blue skies, and morning coffees on my patio! Anything that brings some light to your life, such as basking your tired winter skin in the sun, is good for the soul. Spring also means gardening, planting new seeds, and growing new tomatoes and flowers. This will always bring the life force energy alive!

Try Some Spring Cleaning With Your Mindfulness Meditation

If you’re having trouble getting out of your winter rut, you may want to start by doing a little Spring cleaning around your home. It’s pretty cluttered in here at the moment with home office and home gym, and a busy schedule. So I have to remind myself that cluttered home usually means cluttered mind. Mindfulness meditation is a great way to clear the mind clutter if practised regularly. But combine that with a Spring clean, and maybe a cleansing scent in your air diffuser such as lemon balm or tea tree oil will certainly clear the clutter and set you on the path to new creativity and growth.
