I went on this glorious hike to Grizzly Peak yesterday, remembering the fallen soldiers who fought for our peace and freedom. Peace and Freedom! Such amazing blessings that bring us a lightness of spirit, and a renewed energy! With that thought, as well as the radiant sun shining upon us, I reflected on the importance of remembering the inner light of our souls.

We all have this inherent inner light, but It doesn’t always feel like it when so many things can dim the inner light of our souls. But we are born as radiant beings of light and pure consciousness. We never lose that, it just gets dimmed by external factors.

So within all of us, as I’ve learned in Qigong, are the three “dantians”. This translates to the “life force energy” in our bodies. We all have one in the forehead area between the eyes – the Third Eye area. There is one in the Solar Plexus area at the level of the heart. The third one lies just behind the belly-button and is often referred to as a glowing light. How do we keep this little light inside of us burning brightly?

The Inner Light That Comes With Peace & Freedom

Going back to the feelings of peace and freedom, we can ignite the spark of our inner flame by doing things that create a sense of peace and freedom. When I’m out in a mountain range like this one, I often see and hear Falcons flying overhead. I stop to notice the sunlight shining through their wings, and the “whooshing” sound of their flapping wings. Flying free, I am reminded of my own freedom to fly when my spirit feels happy and alive.

We also spotted a herd of mountain sheep running faster than I have ever seen them run before down in the valley below us. I think they sensed our presence and were running wild and free to more peaceful spot. It was such a unique experience that filled us with awe and wonder. We, too, can find those peaceful spots out in nature and also within our own souls through meditation.

Bottom line: Whatever brings you peace and freedom, do more of that, and you will exude your natural radiance. When we exude radiance, others around us really feel that, and it uplifts and elevates them too! When we’re all feeling more radiant, the inner light of our souls expands, and more of us begin to feel true happiness.

The Inner Light and True Happiness

Do you really know what true happiness is? Many of us look for something outside of ourselves to make us happy. Whether that is new friends, a partner, a new home, or car, we endlessly seek for something or someone to make us happy. These things are all valid, but they only provide a temporary happiness. It may sound cliche, but happiness really does come from within. The inner light within us just needs the right conditions to burn more brightly.

How do we know what the right conditions are, and how to create them? Well, it starts with clearing our vessel. By that I mean we create a space of neutrality within our dantians, or our energy centres within the body, mind, and spirit.

This is primarily achieved through regular practices of yoga and meditation, particularly kundalini yoga, which allows the clearing and flow of breath and prana in and out of our systems. The more we practice it, the easier it is to come into that neutral space. We want the life force to flow freely from the base of our spine and up through our crown chakra. If there’s a kink in the hose, the energy does not flow freely, and we don’t come into that clear space we need to exude radiance.

True happiness comes through clearing the vessel, getting the kinks out of the hose, and feeling revitalized so that spark within can be reignited. It’s like breathing new life into our beings. A clear vessel allows us to attract more of what we truly desire.

With Confidence Comes a Feeling of Joy

True happiness comes from within, and part of what brings about the joy we all want to feel is having self-confidence. This means confidence in our feelings, in who we are, in our own intuition, and so on. Confidence is not something we do or have, but a strength in knowing who we are, and being who we are, no matter what anyone else may think. Confidence is sexy! When we have more of it, without acting superior to anyone of course, then we attract more of what our heart desires!

The Inner Light and Being Real About Our Feelings

Sometimes we don’t honour our true feelings. We allow ourselves to fester about things, bottle things up, or we react in anger. If we don’t allow these feelings, and pretend to be happy or confident when really we’re not, we can never be honest with ourselves and others. If we then hope to attract friends, partners, and the life we want, we quickly find it’s not happening for us. That could be because you’re not being honest with yourself about how you really feel at the core. If you are not honest with yourself, how do you expect others to trust you?

Even if you’re feeling something negative like anger, shame, or guilt, you must allow these feelings to be, and to pass through you, so you can move on from that into more positivity and a better space. To be honest with your feelings does take courage! If you’re unhappy, don’t pretend you’re happy, because everyone else will sense it, and you come across as being inauthentic.

Getting Into the Neutral Zone

The reason we seek a place of neutrality rather than a polarity such as all light or all dark, is because the space of neutrality allows ease and flow of intuition, inner wisdom, creativity, and guidance that we simply can’t get when we’re stuck in blacks or whites. No one exudes radiance all the time. We all have bad days sometimes. So seeing things from only one perspective is seeing life through a very narrow lens. We want a bird’s eye view – A balanced perspective, and a clear channel for inspiring energy to flow. This allows radiance to blossom forth from our souls.

What this takes is some consistent effort. Meditation doesn’t come easy to everyone. It’s very hard to sit still with a straight spine and watch the thoughts of the mind float on by like clouds. Many of us have very busy lives full of responsibilities and stressors. So it takes practice to clear the vessel. I do kundalini yoga once per week, and another type of yoga another day per week. I like to add a silent meditation into that too, but still struggle to find the time to squeeze it all into my days. As the saying goes, “You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes everyday – unless you’re too busy; then you should sit for an hour”.

The Inner Light and Loving Ourselves

The last little piece I wanted to share on exuding our radiance is how loving ourselves can make the inner light of our souls shine brightly. This means being compassionate and gentle with ourselves. We can beat ourselves up until we’re nearly black and blue sometimes, so treating ourselves with the love we would give a child in need of love is one of the best things we can do for our wellbeing.

Self-love can look like a lot of different things to different people. One way I love to take care of myself is by spending time in nature, especially the mountains or next to lakes or the oceanside. Nature has so many healing properties if you notice everything and absorb all its energy.

Show Yourself Some Love

Here are some other ways to show yourself some love:

  • Epsom salt baths, hot yoga, and steam rooms in the winter where it’s cold. My personal faves!
  • Setting healthy boundaries in your relationships for what is acceptable to you and what is not and clearly communicating those so there is no confusion.
  • Knowing yourself, and having a strong sense of purpose.
  • Forgiving easily and not holding onto the past.
  • Eating and drinking healthy and getting plenty of sleep.
  • Trusting the wisdom of your intuition.
  • Laughing and not taking life so seriously.
  • Celebrating you, and all you have accomplished.

Yes, when we love ourselves more, we exude a natural radiance that extends outwards in all directions to all those we come into contact with. It can be felt, whether you’re aware of it or not, and it elevates and uplifts those around you. What a beautiful gift to share with the world!
