We all have chakras, which are like spinning wheels, or whirlpools of energy circling up and down our spines. We can’t see them of course, just like we can’t see the spinning of subatomic particles. But the 7 chakras (or 12, or 141, depending who you ask), are associated with certain properties, colours, and sounds. This allows us to be aware of them, and understand how they affect our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual states. We can then use chakra energy healing to change the flow of our own energy into more positive states. This kind of healing is a great way to find our authentic voice.

What Exactly Is Chakra Energy Healing?

What we need to do is identify how we feel in our physical bodies. “I feel a pain in my neck”, or “I have a tummy ache”. Then examine how we feel about how we feel. What is our mental and emotional state? Is your belly ache from stress? Just notice and accept how you feel. When we come to this acceptance of what is, we can then create more space within the container of ourselves to allow a freer flow of chakra energy. Through breath work – breathing into that space – we heal many aspects of our lives. Remember to Feel-Accept-Breathe Into the Space.

Chakra Energy Healing In Nature

A great place where chakra energy healing can take place is of course out in nature! Nature, and the Earth itself, is like a vortex of energy moving through the different seasons and cycles of life. Like in the photo, there are ripples on the waters, wind blowing, trees standing tall, and mountains – steadfast and strong.

These aspects of nature ground us, stabilize us, teach us, and provide the breath of life. Almost everything I do that I love relates in some way to nature. It’s a great healer because it opens our energy centres as we breathe in its beauty, resilience, and strength. This creates a beautiful space in our minds, bodies, and spirits where we can express our authentic voices and true selves.

Here’s Another Great Chakra Energy Healing Method That Helps You Speak Your Truth

Opening Blocked Chakras With Your Voice

Another of the many ways we can open and heal these channels in our minds, bodies, and spirits is by using our voice. How open or blocked our energy centres are can determine if we are using our authentic voice in our expressions. Our voice can also tell us how nervous we are, how present or non-present we are, or how confident we are in our communications. The voice is not only a sound that comes out when we speak or sing. It can also be felt in our bodies.

As an example, I’ll never forget trying to give a retirement speech for a colleague in front of a group of people at my workplace. I prepared something in advance that was quick and easy, and I felt confident that it would go smoothly. Was I ever wrong! I got up there in front of everyone, and I froze completely. My mind went blank, and my gut and throat went tight. Nothing came out, except for deafening silence, until finally I said, “Well, you know what I’m trying to say! Congratulations!” Yikes! How embarrassing! This is a great example of how our nervous systems can take hold of us in a FREEZE state, where we aren’t able to use our voice in the way we intended.

At that time in my life, I didn’t know much about the chakras, but in retrospect, I really needed some chakra energy healing! Heck, I still need more healing today! Perhaps in the 3rd Solar Plexus chakra area associated with self-esteem, and also the 5th Throat chakra area, associated with communication and expression. I was likely stuck in a negative self-belief and insecurity about public speaking. I sure felt it in my gut, throat, and head!

Finding Your Authentic Voice Through Mantras & Music

When it comes to voice, I love singing mantras as a chakra energy healing method. You can really feel the sounds vibrating in different parts of your body, using different tones. Chanting mantras offers a clear space to relax, and feel into who we really are. It creates an opening into the neutral mind where we can develop our wisdom, compassion, and intuition.

Singing, in whatever way, or even just listening to uplifting music, helps us use our voice in different ways. Rather than from a place of tension, anxiety, or fear, we sing from a place of “feeling”. For example, singing from the heart based on the compassion you have for your mother, rather than singing from the head or throat based on what we think we should sound like, or trying to impress.

When we get lost in the music and mantras, our bodies, minds, and spirits resonate with the sound frequencies. This creates a spacious opening that allows a free flow of chakra energies. It is here that we can start to sing and speak from the truth of our souls using our authentic voice.

I’ve been following a wonderful singer, musician, yoga instructor, and personal coach for years – Amy Thiessen – whose mission “is to help passionate & conscientious individuals express themselves with grace, confidence, & impact. By weaving together somatic techniques, mindfulness, vocal exercises, & communication skills you will unwrap the power & resonance in your full expression”. The Sounds Associated With the Chakras

We can find our authentic voice through making the sounds associated with each chakra. They are like mantras, which, when chanted, can be felt in a particular chakra area. Chakra energy healing can happen quite effortlessly when these mantras are chanted repeatedly. So let’s go briefly through the 7 main chakras, and their sounds.

Root Chakra

The 1st chakra – the Root chakra – a red colour – is a whirlpool of energy at the base of the torso or tailbone. It’s about satisfying your basic needs of food, shelter, and safety. The mantra associated with it is, “Lam”. When you chant “Laaaammmm”, you should be able to feel this vibration around the root, or torso/tailbone area. Whenever you feel your needs are not met in this area, it may help to chant “Lam” to move the stuck energy there. When it’s open and free-flowing, you will automatically attract more abundance.

Sacral Chakra

The 2nd chakra – the Sacral chakra – an orange colour – is a whirlpool of energy around the sex organs, pelvis, and lower belly. It’s about creativity, pleasure, and emotions. The mantra associated with it is, “Vam”. When you chant, “Vaaaammmmm”, it can be felt around those areas. If you don’t feel a creative energy flowing in your life, or you are feeling stuck in your relationships, or are overly aggressive or emotional, you may want to try balancing this chakra with the sound, “Vam”.

Solar Plexus Chakra

The 3rd chakra – the Solar Plexus – a yellow colour – is a whirlpool of energy around the navel centre, where the ribs join about mid-spine. It’s about ego, self-identity, power, shyness, self-esteem, status, or ambition. The mantra associated with is is “Ram”. If you lack self-esteem, are feeling frustrated or angry, or are caught up in the ego-mind, you can heal this chakra by chanting, “Raaaaammmmmmm”, which will be felt in the navel centre.

Heart Chakra

The 4th chakra – the Heart chakra – a green colour – is a whirlpool of energy swirling around the heart centre, upper back, shoulders, arms, or hands. It’s about selflessness, compassion, and kindness. The mantra associated with it is “Yam”. If you need a little more tender loving care, or perhaps need to give more, you can open the heart centre by chanting “Yaaaammmmm”. Place your hand over your heart and feel the vibration as you chant “Yam”.

Throat Chakra

The 5th chakra – the Throat chakra – a turquoise colour – is a whirlpool of energy swirling around the throat, neck, ears, and mouth. It’s about speaking your truth, using your authentic voice, communication, and expression. This includes listening deeply. The mantra associated with it is “Ham”. If you are not speaking your truth, have a tight throat, or don’t use your voice much (like me!), you may want to chant, “Haaaammmm”, which you can feel vibrating in your throat area or in your ears. Singing is also a great way to open the throat chakra, especially if you don’t speak a lot.

Third Eye Chakra

The 6th chakra – the Third Eye chakra – a blue/indigo colour – is a whirlpool of energy swirling around the space between the eyebrows. When we meditate we try to bring our gaze to the third eye, stimulating the pineal gland that helps us with intuition, which is what this chakra is about. To open your third eye so that you can make decisions based on intuition and wisdom, you can chant the sound, “Om”. When you chant, “Oooommmmmm”, you can often feel it vibrating from belly to heart to third eye, to mouth.

Crown Chakra

The 7th chakra – the Crown chakra – a purple colour – is a whirlpool of energy swirling around the crown, or top of the head. It’s about enlightenment and connection with our higher, spiritual selves. It is conscious awareness. When we come into our sovereign selves, and embrace the magnificence that we are, we have an open crown chakra. When it is blocked, we may feel lethargic, lack-lustre, or lacking purpose or knowledge of what it is we came here to do. We can heal this chakra by chanting, “Ommm” silently or resonating it within. This will create an expansive state where we can sit in the seat of awareness.

Pathways To Chakra Energy Healing & Authentic Voice

As you can see, chakra energy healing can happen in a variety of ways. I’m usually discussing my physical activities out in nature, or kundalini yoga as ways of moving the breath and energy in positive ways. These are great, but voice is also an amazing tool we can use to heal our chakras that may be blocked for various reasons. Chanting mantras or singing allows us to feel the sounds in different areas of our bodies. Doing so creates open space where energy can flow. This is the path to finding our authentic voice and being who we really are.
