I like to consider the whole month of November as “Remembrance month”. It’s a time to remember all the soldiers who fought and died, and who are still fighting for our freedoms. When it comes to mindfulness, it’s also good to find our “inner soldier”. We all have inner strength that carries us through difficult battles, but sometimes it’s hard to muster up that strength.
I chose this image because of the gorgeous red hues that resemble poppies in the fields, or even the bloodshed of our soldiers. The sky is hazy from forest fire smoke, like the smokey aftermath of War. Lest we forget that we can hike these trails in stillness, beauty, and peace thanks to those who fought for us. Not far from here in Kananaskis was a German PoW camp built in 1939 that housed nearly 1000 German soldiers! Imagine the inner strength it must have taken to fight in war!
That is not meant to diminish the battles we all face in our own lives, but it may offer a different perspective when it comes to what we are dealing with. Being able to see another’s point of view or perspective on things can help us find our own inner strength. If we put ourselves in another’s shoes, we may regain our strength when we realize how lucky we are.
Another way of finding our inner soldier is by doing things we are passionate about that challenge and motivate us, like climbing this mountain! It’s the highest maintained trail in the Canadian Rockies! How does this help us find inner strength? Well, when we do something challenging that we love, we ignite a spark of passion, and this energizes us! We set and reach goals with courage and strength! That, in turn, motivates us to take on other battles we may be facing.
Physical activity is pretty huge for me. Health is a number one priority. When we have a healthy physical body, we have a healthier mindset too. It takes a lot of inner strength to follow a regular exercise routine, but the benefits you get from doing so make it worth it. You have more mental clarity, an expanded aura, open energy centres, and you are able to conquer those battles you never thought you could.
I’m often doing something a little on the dangerous side when it comes to my physical activities. A lot of people can’t believe the things I do, places I go, and risks I take. But finding our inner strength often begins with doing something that’s a little bit scary! This can be speaking in front of a group of people, or going on a solo vacation. I’ve found that whenever I do something that scares me, I end up enjoying it to the fullest. I feel the inner strength and confidence growing inside of me. It leaves my mouth watering for the next crazy adventure!
There are so many more ways to find inner strength, but I hope this offers a few ideas that you can take away with you and try on your own. I know you’re a soldier! Find the Right Mountain for you, and climb it!
