Halloween is upon us, and it was a spooky night last night at home! I was suddenly awakened at 3AM by someone banging on the living room and bedroom windows! Frozen in fear with heart thumping, I listened and decided what to do next. This has never happened in 20 years, so I got out of bed and grabbed the cell phone. Yes, this was a good reason to be fearful and call the police! Turns out, they were already there dealing with the person right outside the door! I didn’t look, but I sure used my imagination!

Rattled by the situation, I couldn’t get back to sleep, until about an hour or less before having to wake for another work day. In the time I slept, my nightmare of someone breaking in continued in my dreams. Then today, a couple people were digging through the bushes outside my window looking for something! Needless to say, I’m still shaken by the whole ordeal!

Why Is This Happening To Me? The Law of Attraction At Work

It really made me think the same thing we all think when something bad happens to us: Why me? And then I remembered the Law of Attraction, which I’ve always been a big believer in. Basically, this means that if we think, or vibrate, negative thoughts, then we attract more negativity into our lives.

So I asked myself: Where in my life have I recently felt fearful? It didn’t take long to come up with an answer! I’m afraid of losing my job, afraid of health issues as I age, afraid of Covid-19, afraid for my family’s health and well-being, afraid of growing old alone, afraid of not having enough money, afraid of debt, afraid of not being able to travel. The list goes on!

Fear Is Running Rampant

Unfortunately, fear seems to be running rampant in 2020 for many legitimate reasons. It causes our bodies to release stress hormones and we are sent into a state of “flight or fight”. If we hold onto this fear, it can have long-lasting, damaging effects on our health and well-being. It can lead to chronic anxiety, depression, addictions, and physical disease. That’s why it’s important for us to find ways to calm the nervous system.

Calming the Nervous System

Our parasympathetic nervous system is what calms us down, and we can learn to control it to reduce fear, stress, anxiety, and other negative emotions. Who wants high blood pressure and a weakened immune system? I know I’d rather feel uplifted, joyful, peaceful, and relaxed!

Nature As a Healer of Fear

So what can we do to create a sense of inner peace in the face of chaos, fear, and calamity? You guessed it! Spending time in nature is my number one recommendation! Breathing fresh air, exercising, and appreciating nature’s beauty and strength will ground us and help us feel stronger. If there are pets or wildlife involved, it can be even sweeter!

The Sweet Medicine of Yoga, Meditation, Massage, Sound Healing

Yoga, meditation, massage, and crystal bowl sound healings are other great options, as well as doing something you love that brings you joy, peace, and laughter. I know I will be spending some quiet time in meditation tonight to help release the fear-response of last evening’s pre-Halloween freak show! I’ll be snowshoeing in the mountains tomorrow, and perhaps some yoga on Sunday! This should rebalance my sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems!

Halloween has always been one of my favourite non-holidays. It’s a time where I can have fun with scary things, like hiking in Moab to the Skull Rock, as pictured in my photo. But this year with Covid-19 cases on the rise, and last night’s scare, I’m not exactly in the mood. However, I can be grateful that the cops came, I don’t think anyone was injured, and I am safe and healthy.

It’s time for us all to release the demons, and to let go of the ghosts and goblins that haunt us in our conscious and subconscious minds. We can allow the Law of Attraction to work in our favour by vibrating positive, thoughts, and taking part in healthy activities to release fear rather than worrying and being scared of the future or stuck in the past.
